pH Map  05/26/04 11:52:09 AM

When Rock River Laboratory analysis is recieved, "SSToolbox" software is utilized to generate each soil nutrients distribution within the field. Shown is the soil pH map. Each color gradient change, light to dark green is a fertility level difference. This fields pH ranges from 13.1 acres at pH level of 5.3-6.3 to 40.2 acres at 7.
2-7.8. The conventional practice of lime addition at a single rate to the entire field would be a waste of fertilizer dollars and application time. Areas of lower pH would subsequently be under-fertilized and areas of darker green or higher pH would be over fertilized. Conventional fertilizer applications only maintain this in-field variability, not correct it. Low fertility areas will remain lower than optimum, with less than optimum yields resulting. High fertility areas will maintain their top yields but waste time and fertilizer dollars and is environmentally unsound. This fertility data is then utilized to generate a VRT map or "Variable Rate Technology" map. This "VRT" allows Olsen's application equipment to apply only the amount of fertilizer needed for corrective and maintence needs based upon the growers pH fertility goal and the crop needs for optimum yields. The actual "VRT" map can be seen by clicking the "pH VRT" map.
