© 2008 AgriPro. All ratings, including plant height and seed size, may vary with growing conditions.

These agronomic assessments are made by AgriPro COKER scientists and reflect each variety’s relative performance within these characteristics prior to and during the 2008 crop year. Specific conditions may cause variations within these characteristics. These relative protection values are based on 2006 and prior crop years pest and disease populations. These have been known to shift periodically and may cause changes in specific evaluations. Resistance to many other diseases and pests is sensitive to environmental conditions, plant development stages and the presence and intensity of other diseases which may result in specific evaluation inconsistencies. This chart is updated annually to reflect the previous year’s trends.

KASKASKIA

Kaskaskia is an awned, white-chaffed soft red winter wheat

variety released by the University of Illinois Agricultural Experiment

Station. Kaskaskia has high yields and test weight. Kaskaskia

is similar to Howell for winter hardiness. Kaskaskia is similar to

Cardinal in height and heads several days earlier than Cardinal.

Kaskaskia is moderately resistant to soil-borne wheat mosaic virus

and wheat spindle streak mosaic virus. Kaskaskia is resistant to

some races of leaf rust. Kaskaskia has a moderate level of tolerance

to head scab.

Kaskaskia is susceptible to stem rust, powdery mildew,

biotypes B, C, D, E, GP and L of the Hessian fly. It has not been

evaluated with other Hessian fly biotypes. Kaskaskia is easily

distinguished from other soft red winter wheat varieties by a unique

genetic response which involves the lengthwise twisting and curling

of the flag leaves.

Kaskaskia is a U.S. Plant Protected Variety (PVPA 1994). Seed

of this variety can only be sold as a class of certified seed.

Truman

Truman is a soft red winter wheat variety released by the

University of Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station. It is a full

season variety with a moderately long vernalization requirement.

It is moderately tall with good straw strength, and stands well in

most environments. Truman has very good winter hardiness and

is moderately tolerant of acid soils. This variety is white-chaffed,

awnletted with long, mid-dense, tapered spikes. Plants are typically

bluish green in color with more blue being apparent as the

plant develops through to senescence.

Truman has a high level of broad-based resistance to Fusarium

head blight. It is resistant to stripe rust. Truman is susceptible to

leaf and stem rust. It has above average resistance to Septoria

leaf blotch. Truman is moderately resistant to soilborne mosaic

virus. It is moderately susceptible to barley yellow dwarf virus and

is susceptible to all races of Hessian fly.

Truman is a U.S. Plant Protected Variety (PVPA 1994). Seed of

this variety can only be sold as a class of certified seed.
